Emotional Wellbeing and Personal Growth through Counselling in Mornington

At Irene Rose Counselling and Psychotherapy, we are counsellors and psychotherapists with experience, and we take care of patients from Mornington to help them with their emotions and mental health. We provide a safe and warm healing environment which helps patients with self-exploration due to our trust, compassion, confidentiality, and respect. Every session is unique, follows a reliable therapeutic framework, is paced to the patient, and is deeply respectful of their needs.

Why Mornington Locals Choose Counselling?

Mornington is a thriving, interconnected community that prioritises health and well-being, making it more than just a seaside town. People here appreciate the slower pace of life, the beauty of nature trails, and the tranquilly of the bay. But life presents difficulties even in serene settings. Major life changes, loss, unresolved past wounds, and relationship stress can all have an effect on mental health. Therapy can be useful in this situation. Speaking with a qualified expert can reduce emotional strain and help you get through trying times.

 Our Method: Kind, Deferential, Customised

Everyone has a unique story. We respect that. The foundation of our work is listening without passing judgement, offering support without exerting pressure, and offering guidance without giving orders. Generic therapy models are not something we support. Rather, we collaborate closely with you to determine what is most important and to identify methods that feel right. Since every modality we employ is trauma-informed, we proceed at a speed that you find comfortable and controllable.

Soul Centred Psychotherapy: Deep Work for the Whole Self

This approach views your mental health as part of a larger picture. Soul centred psychotherapy invites you to explore emotions, memories, and dreams, not as problems, but as messages. When we listen to the soul’s voice, we find clues to healing that the mind alone can’t access. This work is gentle but deep. It helps you reconnect with your values, your inner wisdom, and your true self.

Mind-Body Connection with Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Stress tends to appear in the body even before the mind realises it. Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) shows you how to become aware of where tension resides in your body and let go of it bit by bit. This easy but effective method helps with anxiety, sleep issues, and stress. It introduces calm into the nervous system and provides your body with a break from fight-or-flight.

Tapping (TFT & EFT): Shifting Emotional Energy

Acupressure points are used with tapping, a body-based technique. In emotional freedom techniques (EFT) and thought field therapy (TFT), points are gently tapped while a troubling issue is discussed. This method can rapidly reduce distress. It is frequently used to treat painful memories, grief, panic, and anxiety. Tapping helps many clients feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

Focusing: Listening to the Felt Sense

By focusing, you can learn to look within and pay attention to your body's guidance. Emotions are frequently sensations, intuitions, or subliminal cues rather than merely thoughts. By concentrating, you can learn to accept those feelings without attempting to alter or correct them. This may result in unexpected emotional changes, insights, and clarity.

EMDR and Bi-Lateral Stimulation: Healing from Trauma

Without needing extensive conversation, eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) helps people re-process traumatic memories. It releases brain patterns that are stuck by utilising left-right stimulation, for example, eye movements or light tapping. This can reduce the emotional charge of unwelcome memories. It is especially useful in treating long-term emotional blocks, PTSD, and recovering from abuse.

Hypnotherapy: Accessing the Subconscious

Hypnotherapy can be thought of as something similar to the moments right before bed when your thoughts begin to wander and you feel at ease but are still conscious of what is going on. That's the place we operate. You're not being "put under" or losing control. You're still very much there. What it does is calm the customary mental chatter so that we can approach what's resting beneath it, perhaps an old belief, a thing you've been holding onto, or a pattern that continues to repeat itself. It's not magical, but it can feel surprisingly obvious. What most people say is that it helps them know themselves better, feel less anxious, or at last change something they've been gotten stuck in for years.

Sand Play Therapy: Healing Through Symbols

Some experiences are too big for words. Using miniatures and symbols in a tray of sand, sand play therapy enables you to communicate those experiences. Deep healing can be achieved with this imaginative and nonverbal approach, particularly for kids or adults who feel stuck in talk therapy. It facilitates the safe and organised unlocking of the subconscious.

Art and Expressive Therapy: Speak Without Words

Creating, painting, and drawing are all effective ways to communicate. The goal of expressive therapy is to create meaningful art, not "good" art. We examine emotion, trauma, dreams, or internal conflict using these tools. When words alone are insufficient to bring about healing, this type of therapy opens the door.

Symbol Work and Soul Collage: Making Meaning Tangible

Symbols speak a language your mind doesn’t always understand, but your heart does. We use symbol work and soul collage to help you represent your inner world in visual or tactile ways. This process helps you make meaning from emotion, loss, or life transitions. It’s creative, powerful, and often leads to unexpected clarity.

Working with Parts: Understanding Your Inner Voices

Sometimes, it feels like we have different “parts” inside. One part wants to move on, another is scared. One feels angry, another wants peace. This therapeutic method helps you understand those inner voices and build compassion toward each one. When you stop fighting yourself, you begin to feel whole again.

Empty Chair and Letter Writing: Clearing the Air

These techniques offer a way to express what needs to be said, to a parent, partner, or even a younger version of yourself. You might never send the letter, but writing it can release powerful feelings. The empty chair technique, often used in gestalt therapy, allows you to “speak” with someone in your mind and begin to heal unresolved emotions.

Therapeutic Rituals: Honouring Change

Rituals mark transitions, letting go of the old, stepping into the new. We create simple but powerful rituals for grief, recovery, divorce, or personal milestones. These acts help the heart catch up with what the head already knows. They’re not religious unless you want them to be. They’re about respect, presence, and meaning.

Chakra Healing: Energy Awareness

Chakras are energy centres in the body that influence how we feel and function. When these centres are out of balance, we may feel tired, blocked, or emotionally off. Gentle, body-based work helps restore that balance. Whether or not you “believe” in energy work, many clients feel a sense of calm and grounding after these sessions.

Dream Work: Messages from the Unconscious

Dreams carry symbols, stories, and emotions that often point to hidden truths. We work together to explore your dreams, not to interpret them for you, but to find your own meaning. This process can unlock insight and support healing. Often, dreams highlight what your deeper self already knows.

Myth, Metaphor, and Story: Finding Yourself in the Narrative

Stories have been shaping human experience for millennia. Myth and metaphor give us a bigger picture about life. Whether you're in the midst of a personal crisis, a life change, or bereavement, connecting with stories that are symbolic allows you to feel less isolated. This approach enables you to rewrite your own inner narrative with power and kindness.

Mindfulness: Being Present, Not Perfect

Mindfulness is not about sitting quietly, it is about being able to notice the thoughts without getting stuck in them. Mindfulness can also help calm anxious responses, quell the inner critic and develop emotional strength through practice. We weave simple mindfulness practices into many sessions, making you feel more connected to the here and now.
